Freiburg

Freiburg Green City - Freiburg is known around the world as a model city for the environment and has been awarded a number of national and international environmental prizes, including being crowned “German Capital of Climate Protection 2010”. In Freiburg, excellent quality of life and economic success go hand in hand with environmental awareness. Over the past few years, around 12,000 jobs have been created in the green and solar industry, which now accounts for 3.5% of Germany’s GDP. Freiburg is therefore the perfect host for the European Convention of Environmental Laureates.

Freiburg is a unique blend of traditional and modern life. Nestled at the foot of the Black Forest, Freiburg is not only a prosperous hub of business and research, but also a “small city” steeped in tradition that boasts a unique charm and atmosphere. Why not take a stroll through the medieval Old Town and explore its quaint “Gässle” and “Bächle” (little streams and alleys) before heading to the awe-inspiring Minster to admire the world’s most beautiful gothic cathedral. Famous for its fruit and culture, the Upper Rhine Valley surrounds Freiburg, offering a rich scenic diversity and a mild climate in this tri-border region between Germany, France and Switzerland.
