Siemens Stiftung
Siemens Stiftung empowers people to actively address social challenges. The foundation is committed to expanding basic services and social entrepreneurship, promoting education and strengthening of culture. The foundation views the combination of technological innovations and entrepreneurial approaches as the key driver for the improvement of living conditions in emerging countries and therefore initiated the “empowering people. Award” in order to identify appropriate technical solutions for developmental activities. Inventors and developers around the world were called upon to submit their tested, simple tech innovations in seven crucial supply categories. The aim of this worldwide competition is to connect innovations for basic supply problems in developing countries with potential partners, investors and other interested groups. From over 800 submissions an international expert jury selected the top three winners. Together with 20 runners-up they received a sum of 200.000 Euros as award money in October 2013.
