EWS ElektrizitätsWerke Schönau

After the nuclear catastrophe in Chernobyl, citizens of Schönau together with local activists decided to stand up and join hands for a nuclear-free, sustainable energy supply. 9 years later, after they successfully passed two referendums, they bought the local power grid from a nuclear power plant operator. Since then, the Elektrizitätswerke Schönau offer sustainable energy and are owned by the citizens of Schönau. Ursula Sladek, director and Co-Founder has received the highly remunerated German Environmental Award.
